I recently got the chance to help my friend Ron find a new opportunity when he mentioned that he was exhausted with his job. We updated his resume to reflect his current skills and accomplishments, then we talked about the types of work he could envision himself doing. We refined his resume and job search around those things.
I reached out to other professionals in my network and found a great lead that I ran past Ron. We did mock interviews, I gave him a great recommendation (one of many) and voila! Ron is a couple months into his new role and has room to grow and room to breathe.
For my own job searches, I rely on word of mouth quite a lot, though I have had luck with indeed.com in the past.
What tools do you use when changing roles? Have you had luck with Dice, Monster or Craigslist? Or are you a word of mouth networker?
